What to Look For in a Turbine

Listed below are some things to consider when choosing which turbine is right for you:

  • Turbine output is rated in kWh and is figured by taking .01328 x rotor diameter (ft.) squared x avg. wind speed3
  • RPMs (revolutions per minute)- The lower the RPMs the better due to less wear and tear.
  • Heavier weight may indicate a more rugged turbine
  • Swept area - area in square feet of the circle “swept” by the blades
  • Governing system (tailor braking system)- blade pitching
  • Governing speed- speed (ranges 21-36)
