The advantage of guyed towers is that they offer the least expensive option for turbine purchasers while still providing a stable home. Disadvantages of this type of towering are related to the wires used to secure the tower: 1) a larger footprint (land space) is required than for other towering options, and 2) some find this option to not be aesthetically pleasing.
Freestanding lattice towers provide an excellent option for turbine housing! Newer innovations to this type of towering include a hinged feet option that allows for tower “folding over” for annual maintenance.
The last, and most aesthetically pleasing option for towering is the monopole. Monopole towers have the smallest footprint (land use) but do require more extensive soil analysis and deeper footings to support the weight of the tower and turbine.
